A visit to nature’s classroom for children from House of Love

36 children from House of Love, Klang experienced life science learning in the great outdoor at the GK Organic Farm, situated in the remote area of Kampung Sungai Buah, at the border of Selangor. This hands-on unique learning tour is part of the Da Ma Cai’s Staff-in-the-Community Programme, a corporate social responsibility initiative that encourages volunteerism amongst its employee and giving back to the society.

The day of laughter and merriment started with Da Ma Cai staff volunteers meet-and-greet the children and caretakers from House of Love before boarding the bus to the Farm. Upon arrival, the Farm owner welcome the little visitors with their special programmes for school children allowing little learners to learn first-hand about environmental conservation and the effects of organic farming.

The guided farm tour stated with the visit at the key areas of the farm including planting section, compost section and beekeeping section. Then the children got excited as they got some hands-on experience in planting without the use of pesticides and harmful fertilisers and harvesting freshest and nutritious food crops like a farmer. While the children wandered with barefoot and stuck their hands into the soil, they also learnt how to appreciate nature as they see, smell and feel the fresh sprouts, flavourful herbs and leafy greens.

Beside the farm tours there was a whole swag of other activities to get the little ones involved including enzyme making and insects finding game as the farm has many bees, fishes,dragonflies and insects in the outback acres.

Right after the activities, the children were treated to the delicious full organic local and fusion cuisine buffet prepared with farm fresh produce.

“We enjoyed finding a little sanctuary from time to time and it is a very meaningful way to do that by bringing the children getting away from the hustle and bustle with a trip to the farm, “ said Saras Subramaniam, a Da Ma Cai staff volunteer.

A grassy expanse, on-site dining, and fun activities, all set against the quaint backdrop of the quiet Kampung Sungai Buah countryside make this a truly learning journey that the children and volunteers will never forget.

In conjunction with this one-day Programme, Da Ma Cai also presented a grocery and stationery shopping vouchers worth RM5,000 to House of Love to lighten the burden of the children home during this challenging time.
